CASE STUDY
Anglo American optimises costs for greater control of hybrid telephony estates with Soft-ex’s UC Analyser

Anglo American
About Anglo American
Anglo American plc is a multinational mining company headquartered in London. It is the world’s largest producer of platinum, accounting for around 40% of global output, as well as being a major producer of diamonds, copper, nickel and other minerals. Anglo American has over 60,000 employees operating in 13 regions across 30 sites.
The Challenge
Anglo American operated through a hybrid telephony environment between Cisco and Microsoft Teams. A lack of synergy between these systems left the company with limited visibility and insufficient insights into license rental and telephony usage, impacting control over corporate telephony costs.
Due to limited visibility across its Cisco voice estate, a seamless transition to Teams was challenging for the company. Anglo American lacked access to the data needed to measure license assignment as they maintained hybrid estates. The telephony usage and license consumption of its Teams estates was also difficult to assess, making the transition less predictable from a resource and cost perspective.
The Solution
Anglo American deployed UC Analyser from Soft-ex across its hybrid telephony network. With each site adhering to respective telephony budgets, greater insights were needed to increase site-by-site control and gain greater visibility into line usage across employee estates. With UC Analyser, Anglo American armed each site with the information and capabilities needed to manage and optimise costs. Soft-ex also equipped various sites with customised, bespoke reporting functions designed to meet complex business requirements. For example, the personalised dashboards capture changes in staffing, allowing the team to closely monitor and respond to telephony usage and license requirements in the future.
The Result
Through these solutions, Anglo American achieved:

The Soft-ex reporting tool has provided value through greater visibility into usage patterns, trends and costs. With these insights, we’re now better equipped to make data driven decisions and see opportunities globally within our organisation.
